Vietnam Temporary Residence Card (TRC) Service 2026

A temporary residence card (TRC) lets a foreigner live in Vietnam for years without repeated visa extensions, and it replaces the visa when entering the country. Info Travel files TRC applications for companies and families nationwide.

Who qualifies

Symbol Holder Validity
LD1, LD2 Employee holding a valid work permit or an exemption confirmation up to 2 years, capped by the work permit
DT1, DT2 Investor contributing 50 billion VND or more up to 5 years
DT3 Investor contributing 3 to under 50 billion VND up to 3 years
TT Spouse and children under 18 of a Vietnamese citizen or TRC holder up to 3 years

Investors contributing under 3 billion VND (symbol DT4) are not eligible for a card and receive a visa of up to 12 months instead. Since 1 July 2026, Circular 70/2026/TT-BCA raised the ceiling printed on the forms from 5 to 10 years for privileged categories.

Documents

  • Form NA6 (company sponsor) or NA7 (individual sponsor)
  • Form NA8 — the applicant declaration, with photos
  • Original passport with a valid visa matching the card category
  • Work permit or exemption confirmation (LD), investment registration certificate (DT), marriage or birth certificate (TT)
  • Company file: business registration certificate and form NA16
  • Temporary residence declaration for the current address

Fees and timing

Government fee: 145 USD (under 2 years), 155 USD (2 to under 5 years), 165 USD (5 to 10 years). Service fee from 6,200,000 VND. Processing takes 6–15 working days; some immigration offices ask the applicant to attend in person for fingerprints.

Renewal and replacement

A TRC is not extended — a new card is issued, so start the file about 30 days before expiry. A card must also be reissued when the passport is replaced, or when it is lost or damaged.

Common reasons applications are rejected

  • Work permit expiring sooner than the requested card validity
  • Capital contribution not evidenced by the investment registration certificate
  • Form NA16 never filed, or the company seal and signature changed without updating it
  • Foreign documents not consularly legalised and notarised in Vietnamese
