Answer a few short questions about your nationality, purpose and length of stay in Vietnam. The tool tells you whether you are visa-exempt, should get a 30- or 90-day e-visa, or need a 5-year visa exemption, a sponsored visa, a work permit or a residence card, with the steps, documents, timing and reference fees at Info Travel.

How to use the tool

  1. Step 1: choose the nationality shown in your passport.
  2. Step 2: answer the questions about your purpose, how long you want to stay, where you are now (in Vietnam or abroad) and your current visa status.
  3. Step 3: see the option that fits you, with the steps, documents, timing and fees. You can upload your documents and send them to Info Travel for a free check.

What does the tool base its suggestions on?

  • Visa exemption: 12 countries under Resolution 44/NQ-CP (any purpose, 45 days), 12 European countries under Resolution 229/NQ-CP (tourism, 45 days) and ASEAN countries (14–30 days).
  • E-visa: available to citizens of all countries, up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
  • Tourism over 3 months: a tourist visa is valid for up to 3 months and cannot be issued for longer. If you are in Vietnam, leave the country before your visa expires and apply for a new 1–3 month visa to re-enter. If you are abroad, get a 3-month e-visa first, then do the same. To stay long term, you need to switch to work or family status.
  • Family of Vietnamese citizens: the spouse or child of a Vietnamese citizen should first consider a family (TT) temporary residence card for 2–3 years, which lets you stay for the whole validity without leaving. A cheaper and simpler option is the 5-year visa exemption certificate, with up to 180 days per entry. People of Vietnamese origin and their spouses and children get the 5-year visa exemption. Only one document proving the relationship is needed.
  • Work: a work permit under Decree 219/2025/ND-CP is required, then an LĐ visa and a residence card for up to 2 years.
  • Work documents by position: managers and directors only need a criminal record certificate; experts and teachers need a university degree, a 3–5 year experience letter and a criminal record certificate; technical workers need an experience letter covering at least 3 years and a criminal record certificate. Documents issued abroad must be consular legalized, preferably in your home country before you come to Vietnam. The health certificate is done at a hospital in Vietnam.
  • Investors: you can get an investor (ĐT) residence card directly, without a work permit, if you have an investment certificate or a capital contribution confirmation of at least VND 3 billion, the company has an office and signboard, and it has incurred corporate income tax. If not, get a work permit or work permit exemption first.
  • Staying over 3 months: you need a sponsor (company, family, school) for a DN, LĐ, ĐT, TT or DH visa and a residence card.
  • Visa overstay: an overstayed visa cannot be extended. Under 15 days, you pay the fine and exit at the airport. From 15 days, Info Travel handles the procedure and the fine at the Immigration Department before you leave. In both cases we do our best to propose that you are not put on the entry ban list, then you apply for a new visa to come back.
