Work Residence Card LD1, LD2 for Employees in Vietnam
This page covers the labour category card (LD). To have us handle the file, see the residence card service.
The one condition that decides everything
A valid work permit — or a written confirmation of exemption — must exist before the card is filed. An LD visa alone is not enough. The correct order is: labour demand approval, work permit, LD visa, residence card.
Documents
- Form NA6 from the employer
- Form NA8 completed by the employee, with photos
- Original passport carrying a valid LD visa
- Work permit or exemption confirmation
- Enterprise registration certificate and form NA16
- Temporary residence declaration for the employee address
Validity
Up to two years, never beyond the work permit. If the permit has under a year left, renew it first — otherwise you pay for a card that expires almost immediately.
Government fee
145 USD (under 2 years) or 155 USD (2 to under 5 years), plus service fee from 6,200,000 VND. Processing 6–15 working days; some offices require the employee to attend for fingerprints.
When the employee changes employer
The card is tied to the sponsor. A new employer means a new work permit and a new card; the old card should be returned. Continuing to hold a card sponsored by a company you no longer work for is a compliance risk for both sides.
