Work Permit Exemption: Documents and Procedure

This page covers the exemption filing. Service and pricing: work permit service.

Documents

  • Employer written request on the prescribed form
  • Proof of the exemption ground — charter and capital documents, board resolution, transfer decision, service contract or assignment letter
  • Passport copy of the foreigner
  • Documents proving qualifications or role where the ground requires it
  • Foreign documents consularly legalised and translated — see legalisation

Where and when

Filed with the provincial labour authority (or the authority delegated in the locality) before the work starts, generally at least 3 working days in advance for short assignments. Confirmation is usually issued within 3–5 working days of a complete file.

Validity

The confirmation follows the assignment or role and is capped at two years, like a permit. Renewal follows the same process.

After the confirmation

  1. Apply for an LD1 visa or convert the current visa — see LD requirements.
  2. Apply for the LD residence card for the confirmed period.
