Residence Card Renewal in Vietnam: Document Checklist

It is a new card, not an extension

Unlike a visa, a residence card cannot be extended. When it expires a new card is issued, so the file looks much like a first application.

Checklist

Form NA6 or NA7	Company or individual sponsor; current 2026 template
Form NA8	Applicant declaration with photos
Original passport	Must outlast the requested card validity
Expiring card	Returned with the application
Work permit (LD) or capital documents (DT) or relationship documents (TT)	Must cover the period requested
Enterprise registration certificate and form NA16	Refile NA16 if seal, representative or address changed
Temporary residence declaration	Current address, filed by the landlord

Start 30 days early

If the card expires before the new one is issued, the holder is out of status and faces an overstay penalty. Work permits should be renewed 45 days ahead so the card can be issued for a full term.
