Residence Card Renewal in Vietnam: Document Checklist

To renew a residence card you need forms NA6/NA7 and NA8, the original passport (valid beyond the new card), the expiring card, the basis document — work permit (LD), capital documents (DT) or relationship papers (TT) — the sponsor’s enterprise registration certificate and form NA16, and a current temporary residence declaration. Start about 30 days before expiry: the card cannot be extended, a new one is issued.

This page covers the documents for a renewal. To have us handle the file, see the residence card service.

It is a new card, not an extension

Unlike a visa, a residence card cannot be extended. When it expires a new card is issued, so the file looks much like a first application.

If the card expires before the new one is issued, the holder is out of status and faces an overstay penalty. Work permits should be renewed 45 days ahead so the card can be issued for a full term.

Steps and timing: renewal process.

Companies sponsoring foreign staff can hand the whole file to a Vietnam visa agency such as Info Travel to track visa and residence card deadlines and avoid overstay fines. Call Zalo/WhatsApp: +84327828822.
