Vietnam E-visa Application Guide: Every Field Explained
This page is the application walkthrough. The service and pricing are on the e-visa page.
Before you start
- Passport valid at least six months with two blank pages
- Digital portrait photo: straight face, no glasses, plain background
- Full scan of the passport bio page — all four corners, no glare
- Address of your first accommodation in Vietnam
- Chosen entry and exit gates
Fields that cause rejections
| Field | Rule |
|---|---|
| Full name | Exactly as in the passport machine-readable zone, same order |
| Passport number | Character by character; zero and letter O are a common mix-up |
| Intended entry date | The visa validity starts here — not the application date |
| Entry gate | Must be a designated international gate; you may not enter elsewhere |
| Photo | No filters, no headwear except for religious reasons, recent |
After submission
Keep the registration code. Processing is usually 3–5 working days. When approved, print the e-visa — airlines often ask at check-in, and border officers may too.
If refused
No reason is given. In practice it is image quality, a data mismatch or a previous overstay. Options: resubmit a corrected application, or switch to an approval letter, where a Vietnamese sponsor strengthens the file.
Limits
Maximum 90 days, no work permitted, and extension inside Vietnam requires a sponsor — see extensions.
