What is the Vietnam visa fee?
The visa fee (visa issuance fee) is the amount a foreign national pays to the immigration authority when a visa to Vietnam is issued. The rates are set by the Ministry of Finance and apply uniformly nationwide, regardless of whether the foreign national applies on their own or through a service company.
Vietnam visa fees are calculated by the number of entries and the validity of the visa, not by nationality or purpose of entry. For example, a single-entry tourist visa (DL) and a single-entry work visa (LĐ1) both cost 25 USD.
Latest Vietnam visa fee table 2026
According to the fee schedule issued with Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC, visa fees for foreign nationals are as follows:
| Visa type | Fee |
|---|---|
| Single-entry visa | 25 USD |
| Multiple-entry visa, valid for up to 90 days | 50 USD |
| Multiple-entry visa, valid for over 90 days up to 180 days | 95 USD |
| Multiple-entry visa, valid for over 180 days up to 1 year | 135 USD |
| Multiple-entry visa, valid for over 1 year up to 2 years | 145 USD |
| Multiple-entry visa, valid for over 2 years up to 5 years | 155 USD |
| Visa issued to children under 14 (regardless of validity) | 25 USD |
| Transfer of a valid visa to a new passport | 5 USD |
Some points to note when applying the visa fee table:
- E-visas (electronic visas) are also visas, so the same rates apply: 25 USD for a single-entry e-visa and 50 USD for a multiple-entry e-visa (valid for up to 90 days). See also the Vietnam e-visa application guide.
- Visas on arrival at the airport (with an entry approval letter): the foreign national pays the visa stamping fee directly at the airport visa counter, usually in cash.
- Visas collected at a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate abroad are charged according to a separate consular fee schedule, which may differ from the table above. Check with the mission where you will collect the visa.
- Fees are collected in USD or converted to Vietnamese dong at the exchange rate on the day of payment.
Fees for temporary residence cards, extensions of stay and visa exemption certificates
In addition to visa fees, Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC also sets the fees for other residence documents for foreign nationals:
| Document type | Fee |
|---|---|
| Temporary residence card valid for up to 2 years | 145 USD |
| Temporary residence card valid for over 2 years up to 5 years | 155 USD |
| Temporary residence card valid for over 5 years up to 10 years | 165 USD |
| Extension of temporary stay (per extension) | 10 USD |
| Visa exemption certificate (new issue, reissue) | 20 USD (first issue) / 10 USD (reissue) |
| Permanent residence card (new issue, reissue) | 100 USD |
| Permit to enter restricted areas and border areas | 10 USD |
For those staying long term, comparing the cost of repeated visa extensions with a one-off temporary residence card usually shows that the card is cheaper when the stay exceeds 1 year.
Where and how to pay the visa fee
How you pay the Vietnam visa fee depends on where the visa is issued:
- E-visa: pay online by bank card when submitting the application on the Immigration Department’s electronic visa portal.
- Visa stamped at the airport: pay at the visa counter at the border checkpoint after presenting the entry approval letter, passport and photo.
- Visa issued in Vietnam (change of purpose, new visa, extension): pay at the Immigration Department or the Immigration Office of the Provincial Police when collecting the result, or pay online if the application was filed via the public service portal.
- Visa at a Vietnamese diplomatic mission abroad: pay as instructed by the Embassy or Consulate.
If you are not sure where to submit your application after the reorganisation of administrative units, see the article where to submit visa and temporary residence card applications after the provincial mergers.
Who is exempt from fees, and when fees are refunded
Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC provides for certain fee exemptions, mainly: guests of the State, persons entitled to diplomatic privileges and immunities, persons entering Vietnam for humanitarian relief work, and certain cases for foreign-policy or security reasons. Foreign nationals travelling, working, investing or visiting relatives in the ordinary way are not exempt from fees.
Refunds: if the applicant does not meet the conditions for the document to be issued, the fee paid is refunded. If the applicant voluntarily declines to collect the result, no refund is given.
Government fees vs. service fees
Many customers confuse the visa fee with the price of a visa service. The two are completely different:
- Government fee: a fixed amount under Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC, paid to the immigration authority, with an official receipt.
- Service fee: charged by a service company for advice, preparing the file, sponsorship (for tourists), submission and follow-up. The amount varies by visa type, validity, nationality and urgency.
There may also be costs for certified translation, consular legalisation, courier delivery or express processing surcharges. Frequently asked questions about Vietnam visa fees
Have Vietnam visa fees increased in 2026?
The main visa fees (25 USD for a single-entry visa, 50–155 USD for multiple-entry visas) are unchanged from the previous rules. What has changed is the legal basis: since 01/4/2026 the applicable instrument is Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC, replacing Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC and Circular 62/2023/TT-BTC.
How much is the Vietnam e-visa fee?
Single-entry e-visa: 25 USD. Multiple-entry e-visa: 50 USD. E-visas are valid for up to 90 days.
Do children have to pay the visa fee?
Yes. Visas issued to children under 14 cost 25 USD, regardless of validity and number of entries.
Do visa-exempt travellers have to pay a fee?
Citizens of countries that enjoy Vietnam visa exemption under unilateral or bilateral arrangements do not pay a visa fee when entering within the exempted period. However, applicants for a visa exemption certificate (for people of Vietnamese origin and their relatives) pay 20 USD for the first issue and 10 USD for each subsequent issue.
Is the visa fee refunded if the application is refused?
If the application does not meet the conditions for issuance, the fee is refunded under Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC. Service fees charged by a service company are handled according to the contract between the parties.
