Renewing a Work Permit in Vietnam: Conditions and Documents

Conditions
- The current permit is still valid and has at least 5 days but not more than 45 days left
- The employer, job title and workplace are unchanged
- The labour contract or assignment continues
A permit can be renewed once, for up to two years. After that a new permit application is required, with the full document set again.

Timing
File at least 5 days and no more than 45 days before expiry. Miss the window and you file a brand-new permit — meaning criminal record, degree legalisation and the full timeline again, roughly 4–6 weeks.
Knock-on effects
Renew the permit before the LD visa or the residence card, because both are capped by the permit validity.
