A TT family visa can be sponsored by a Vietnamese citizen (for a foreign spouse, child or parent) or by a foreigner with a valid residence card (for a spouse and children under 18). You need form NA3, proof of the relationship (legalised and translated if issued abroad), the sponsor’s identity documents and a passport valid six months. The visa lasts up to 12 months, can be extended, does not allow work, and can lead to a TT residence card of up to three years.

Validity and limits
Up to 12 months, extendable with form NA5. TT does not permit employment. For stays beyond a year, the TT residence card runs up to three years.
For families of Vietnamese origin
If the applicant or the spouse is of Vietnamese origin, compare with the 5-year exemption certificate: five years validity, 180 days per entry, usually cheaper.

Can I work on a TT family visa?
No. A TT visa is for visiting and living with family. To work, a foreigner needs a work permit (or exemption confirmation) and a visa or residence card for employment; see who needs a work permit and the LĐ work visa. Changing visa purpose inside Vietnam is only possible in limited cases set by law.
How do I extend a TT visa?
The sponsor (the Vietnamese relative, or the company sponsoring the expert) signs form NA5 and files it with the passport and proof of relationship at the immigration office before the visa expires. The state fee depends on the new visa’s validity. See Vietnam visa extension.
How long is a TT visa valid?
