Vietnam Visa for Kazakhstan Citizens 2026: 30 Days Visa-Free

Do Kazakhstan citizens need a visa for Vietnam? Not for short trips: under the Vietnam–Kazakhstan agreement on visa exemption for ordinary passport holders, in force since 25 May 2024, Kazakh citizens can stay up to 30 days per entry visa-free, with a total of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period. For a longer stay you need a Vietnam visa for Kazakhstan citizens – usually the e-visa valid up to 90 days – or a sponsored visa and residence card. Do Kazakhstan citizens need a visa for Vietnam in 2026?

Vietnam and the Republic of Kazakhstan signed an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports in Hanoi on 21 August 2023. Vietnam approved it by Government Resolution 40/NQ-CP (4 April 2024), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it took effect on 25 May 2024 (Notice 24/2024/TB-LPQT). Unlike the 45-day unilateral exemptions, this is a bilateral agreement, so its rules are slightly different. See the full list on our Vietnam visa exemption countries page.

Key conditions of the agreement:

  • An ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • Stay of up to 30 days from the date of entry; total stays may not exceed 90 days in each 180-day period.
  • Entry, exit and transit only through international border checkpoints.
  • Anyone planning to stay longer than 30 days must obtain a visa in advance.
  • Each side may refuse entry or shorten a stay under its own laws.

Russian-speaking travellers searching “виза во вьетнам для казахстанцев” will find the same answer: 30 days visa-free, and an e-visa for longer trips.

How to apply for the e-visa from Kazakhstan

If you plan to stay longer than 30 days – for example a two-month holiday – apply for the e-visa on the official portal evisa.gov.vn before you fly:

  1. Scan your passport data page with a clear MRZ line and take a recent portrait photo (light background, no glasses).
  2. Fill in the form in Latin letters exactly as in your passport.
  3. Choose single or multiple entry, your dates and the exact port of entry.
  4. Pay the state fee online and keep your registration code.
  5. Processing usually takes around 3 working days; download and print the e-visa.

Working, investing or living long-term

  • Employment: the employer obtains a work permit (or exemption confirmation), then a LĐ visa and residence card. Kazakh diplomas and criminal record certificates must be consular-legalised and translated.
  • Family: spouses, children and parents of Vietnamese citizens can be sponsored for a TT visa and family residence card.
  • Business: a Vietnamese company can sponsor a DN visa through an approval letter.
  • Investors: capital contributors may qualify for an ĐT visa and long-term card.

Holders of a valid temporary residence card enter and exit without a visa during its validity.

Extensions and overstay

The 30-day visa-free stay is set by the agreement; do not stay past the date stamped on entry. If plans change, a sponsoring company, organisation or Vietnamese relative can apply for a new visa or a Vietnam visa extension under current rules, or you can leave and re-enter with an e-visa. Overstays are fined under Decree 282/2025/ND-CP (VND 0.5–2 million for fewer than 16 days, more for longer).

FAQ

Is it 30 or 45 days visa-free for Kazakhstan?

30 days. Kazakhstan is covered by a bilateral agreement (30 days per entry, max. 90 days in 180 days), not by the 45-day unilateral exemption list.

Can I leave and come back to get another 30 days?

Each entry gives up to 30 days, but the total may not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period, and the border officer decides on entry. For longer stays, use an e-visa or a sponsored visa.

Does the exemption apply to all Kazakh passports?

The agreement covers ordinary passports valid for at least 6 months. Holders of other passport types should check the rules that apply to them with the embassy.

Can I work in Vietnam visa-free?

No. Work requires a work permit (or exemption confirmation) and a LĐ visa or residence card sponsored by the employer.
