Vietnam Visa for Russian Citizens 2026: 45 Days Visa-Free

Do Russians need a visa for Vietnam? No, not for short trips: under Government Resolution 44/NQ-CP, citizens of the Russian Federation can enter Vietnam visa-free and stay up to 45 days per entry, regardless of passport type or purpose of travel, from 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028. For a longer stay you need a Vietnam visa for Russian citizens – most often the e-visa valid up to 90 days – or a sponsored visa and residence card. Do Russians need a visa for Vietnam in 2026?

Russia is one of the 12 countries in Resolution 44/NQ-CP dated 7 March 2025. Russian citizens are exempt from a visa for a temporary stay of 45 days from the date of entry, as long as they meet all of Vietnam’s general entry conditions. The resolution applies “regardless of passport type” and purpose of entry, and it is valid until the end of 14 March 2028 (it may be extended under Vietnamese law). You can check the full list on our Vietnam visa exemption countries page.

Practical conditions at the border:

  • A passport that is valid for the whole trip; the standard rule is at least 6 months of validity remaining.
  • You are not on any entry-ban list in Vietnam.
  • Have an onward or return ticket and accommodation details ready in case the airline or border officer asks.
  • Check current flight routes with your airline before booking.

Russian-speaking travellers often search for “виза во вьетнам для россиян” – the short answer is the same: up to 45 days visa-free, and an e-visa or sponsored visa for anything longer.

How to apply for the e-visa from Russia

If you plan to stay longer than 45 days, or want a multiple-entry permit for trips to neighbouring countries, apply for the e-visa on the official portal evisa.gov.vn:

  1. Prepare a scan of your passport data page with a clear MRZ line, and a recent portrait photo (light background, no glasses, face fully visible).
  2. Fill in the form in Latin letters exactly as printed in your international passport, including the full name order.
  3. Choose single or multiple entry, your intended dates and the exact port of entry (airport, land or sea border).
  4. Pay the state fee online and save your registration code.
  5. Processing usually takes around 3 working days; then download and print the e-visa.

Our step-by-step e-visa application guide explains each field. Mistakes in name, date of birth or passport number mean a new application, so double-check before paying.

Working, investing or living long-term

The exemption and the e-visa are for short stays. Russian citizens who move to Vietnam usually take one of these routes:

  • Employment: the employer obtains a work permit (or exemption confirmation), then a LĐ visa and a temporary residence card. Degrees and criminal record certificates issued in Russia must be consular-legalised and translated.
  • Family: spouses, children and parents of Vietnamese citizens can be sponsored for a TT visa and a family residence card.
  • Business visits: a Vietnamese company can sponsor a DN visa through an approval letter.
  • Investors: capital contributors in a Vietnamese company may qualify for an ĐT visa and a long-term card.

Once eligible, a temporary residence card saves repeated visa runs.

Extensions and overstay

Do not stay beyond the date stamped on entry. If you need more time, a sponsoring company, organisation or Vietnamese relative can apply to the immigration authority for a new visa or extension under current rules, or you can leave and re-enter with an e-visa. Overstaying is fined under Decree 282/2025/ND-CP: VND 0.5–2 million for fewer than 16 days, and higher for longer periods – see Vietnam visa overstay fines.

Russian Embassy and Consulates in Vietnam

For passport loss, renewal or notarial services, contact the Embassy of Russia in Hanoi, the Consulate General of Russia in Ho Chi Minh City or the Consulate General of Russia in Da Nang. Note that Vietnamese visas are issued by Vietnam’s immigration authority or Vietnamese missions abroad, not by the Russian embassy.
