Vietnam Investor Visa DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4 by Capital Contribution
Vietnam issues four investor visa symbols, and the one you get depends on how much capital you have contributed to a Vietnamese company — not on the size of the company itself.
| Symbol | Capital contribution | Maximum validity | Residence card |
|---|---|---|---|
| DT1 | From 100 billion VND, or investment in a prioritised sector or area | 5 years | Yes, up to 5 years |
| DT2 | From 50 to under 100 billion VND, or an encouraged sector | 5 years | Yes, up to 5 years |
| DT3 | From 3 to under 50 billion VND | 3 years | Yes, up to 3 years |
| DT4 | Under 3 billion VND | 12 months | No |
Proving the investment
The file must show the contribution itself, not just the shareholding: investment registration certificate, enterprise registration certificate naming the investor, company charter, and a capital contribution confirmation where relevant. Foreign corporate documents must be consularly legalised and translated.
When the capital changes
Increasing or reducing the contribution changes the symbol, and therefore the validity of the next visa or card. Always file the latest registration certificate — mismatched capital figures are the most common reason DT applications are returned for supplementation.
Investor visa or work permit?
Capital-contributing members above the statutory threshold are exempt from a work permit, but the exemption must be confirmed in writing before the person performs managerial work. Below the threshold, a work permit is required as for any other employee.
