Main consular services
The Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei provides consular services to two main groups:
- Vietnamese citizens: issuing, renewing and replacing passports; civil status registration (births, marriages, deaths and recording events registered locally); nationality procedures; certification, legalisation and attestation of documents; citizen protection in case of accidents, lost documents or detention.
- Foreign nationals: Vietnamese visas and legalisation of documents for use in Vietnam. Today most tourists and short-term business travellers apply for an e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn without visiting the mission; visas stamped at the mission are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for applicants who already hold an entry approval letter.
The most frequent requests are passport replacements for workers, birth registration for children with a Vietnamese parent, and certification of documents for marriage files. Forms and document lists are posted on the office website.
Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?
Taiwan passports are not on the Vietnam visa exemption list, so a visa is required. The simplest option is an e-visa at evisa.gov.vn, valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry (government fee USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple entry). See our e-visa application guide for each step. Business travellers and employees can also obtain a visa on the basis of an approval letter sponsored by a Vietnamese company.
Legalising documents from Taiwan for use in Vietnam
Taiwan is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so documents issued in Taiwan do not use the apostille route for use in Vietnam. Under the usual procedure, documents (degrees, police clearance certificates for work permits, marriage documents, etc.) are first certified by the competent authority in Taiwan, then certified/legalised by the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, and finally translated into Vietnamese with a notarised translation when filed in Vietnam. Check the exact requirements with the receiving authority in Vietnam first.
Info Travel handles the Vietnam side through our consular legalisation service and work permit service.

Demand in Taipei is usually high; check the website for submission and booking instructions (if any) before you go.
