Main consular services

For Vietnamese citizens

  • Issuing, renewing and replacing passports; travel documents for returning home after a passport is lost.
  • Civil status: registration of births, marriages and deaths, and recording of events registered in Saudi Arabia.
  • Nationality matters: confirmation, acquisition, restoration or renunciation of Vietnamese nationality.
  • Consular certification and legalisation, plus some certified copies and signature attestations.
  • Citizen protection: support for Vietnamese workers in Saudi Arabia in disputes with employers, after losing documents, in case of illness or when repatriation is needed. MOFA citizen protection hotline: +84 981 84 84 84.

For foreigners

Saudi citizens and foreign residents of the Kingdom can contact the embassy about visas and document legalisation. Most tourists and short-term business travellers now apply online for an e-visa at evisa.gov.vn (up to 90 days, single or multiple entry) without visiting the embassy. Visas stamped at the mission are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for travellers who already hold an entry approval sponsored by an organisation or company in Vietnam.

Do Saudi citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Saudi Arabia is not on the Vietnam visa exemption list. Saudi ordinary passport holders can apply for an e-visa of up to 90 days (government fee USD 25 single, USD 50 multiple entry) – see our e-visa application guide – or for a visa based on an approval letter for work or investment.

Legalising documents from Saudi Arabia for use in Vietnam

Professionals who have worked in Saudi Arabia and move to Vietnam often need police clearance, degrees or civil status documents recognised as valid.

Saudi Arabia is a party to the Apostille Convention, and Vietnam’s accession to the Convention entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026 (HCCH status table). For public documents issued in Saudi Arabia, the preferred route is now:

  1. Obtain an apostille from the competent authority in Saudi Arabia (degree, police clearance, marriage certificate, etc.).
  2. Have the document translated into Vietnamese and the translation notarised in Vietnam.
  3. Submit it to the Vietnamese authority handling your case (work permit, marriage registration, etc.).

For Vietnamese documents used in Saudi Arabia, apostilles are issued by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs. Because the change is recent, some offices may still ask for traditional consular legalisation (foreign ministry certification followed by legalisation at the Vietnamese embassy), so confirm with the receiving authority first.

Info Travel handles consular legalisation and notarised translation in Vietnam and can then take care of your Vietnam work permit once the documents are in order.

Do I need an appointment?

The MOFA portal does not mention appointments. Call +966 11 4547887 or email vnemb.sa@mofa.gov.vn to check documents and submission times in advance.
