Main consular services

For Vietnamese citizens

  • Issuing, renewing and replacing passports; travel documents for returning home after a passport is lost.
  • Civil status: registration of births, marriages and deaths, and recording of events registered in Pakistan.
  • Nationality matters: confirmation, acquisition, restoration or renunciation of Vietnamese nationality.
  • Consular certification and legalisation, plus some certified copies and signature attestations.
  • Citizen protection: support for Vietnamese students and workers in Pakistan who have accidents, lose passports or face legal problems. MOFA citizen protection hotline: +84 981 84 84 84.

For foreigners

Pakistani business people, students and tourists can contact the embassy about visas and document legalisation. Most tourists and short-term business travellers now apply online for an e-visa at evisa.gov.vn (up to 90 days, single or multiple entry) without visiting the embassy. Visas stamped at the mission are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for travellers who already hold an entry approval sponsored by an organisation or company in Vietnam.

Do Pakistani citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Pakistan is not visa-exempt, so ordinary passport holders must obtain a visa before travelling. The usual options are an e-visa of up to 90 days (government fee USD 25 single, USD 50 multiple entry) or a visa based on an approval letter for work or investment. Pakistani applications tend to be reviewed carefully, so prepare complete trip details. See Vietnam visa for Pakistani citizens.

Legalising documents from Pakistan for use in Vietnam

Pakistani engineers, experts and teachers working in Vietnam usually need valid degrees and police clearance certificates for a work permit; those marrying a Vietnamese citizen need a single-status certificate.

Pakistan is a party to the Apostille Convention, and Vietnam’s accession to the Convention entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026 (HCCH status table). For public documents issued in Pakistan, the preferred route is now:

  1. Obtain an apostille from the competent authority in Pakistan (degree, police clearance, marriage certificate, etc.).
  2. Have the document translated into Vietnamese and the translation notarised in Vietnam.
  3. Submit it to the Vietnamese authority handling your case (work permit, marriage registration, etc.).

For Vietnamese documents used in Pakistan, apostilles are issued by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs. Because the change is recent, some offices may still ask for traditional consular legalisation (foreign ministry certification followed by legalisation at the Vietnamese embassy), so confirm with the receiving authority first.

Info Travel handles consular legalisation and notarised translation in Vietnam and can then take care of your Vietnam work permit once the documents are in order.

FAQ

What are the embassy’s opening hours?

The MOFA portal does not publish this mission’s opening hours. Check the “Lịch làm việc” (working schedule) section of the official website or call ahead, especially around local and Vietnamese public holidays.

Do I need an appointment?

The MOFA portal does not mention appointments. Call +92 51 2655785 or email beforehand to ask when applications are received, especially during Ramadan, when working hours in Pakistan may change.

Is an embassy visa or an e-visa better?

For tourism and short business trips, the e-visa is more convenient because it is entirely online. If a Vietnamese company is hiring you long term, an approval letter with the correct visa type (e.g. LD or DN) is better and smooths the later work permit process.
