What foreigners usually need help with at the embassy
Some real-life situations Bangladeshi nationals in Vietnam run into:
- Passport lost while travelling: police report → new passport/emergency travel document from the embassy → new visa or exit visa from immigration. Skip the last step and you may be stopped at the airport.
- Renewing a passport while resident: a residence card or visa does not move to a new passport automatically – it must be transferred. See our pages on the temporary residence card and visa extensions.
- Marrying a Vietnamese citizen, registering a child’s birth, applying for a work permit: you will need Bangladesh documents such as proof of marital status, birth certificates and police records – all legalised and translated with notarisation.
- Signature certification on powers of attorney or contracts for use in Bangladesh.
- Citizen registration or voter updates where Bangladesh law allows.
Help with Bangladeshi passports in Vietnam
There is no official confirmation that the Bangladesh embassy issues regular passports in Vietnam. If it only issues emergency travel documents, Bangladeshi citizens may need to apply at home or at another mission. Calling or emailing the embassy is the quickest way to be sure.
On the Vietnamese side, Info Travel helps with a new visa or exit visa after a passport loss, a visa extension while you wait, and transferring your temporary residence card to the new passport. We can prepare forms, photos and translations – within what the embassy permits; applicants usually attend in person for biometrics.
Consular legalisation, consular certification (MOFA / Department of Foreign Affairs stamp) and notarised translation
The Apostille Convention has applied to Vietnam since 11 September 2026, and Bangladesh is also a party (since 30 March 2025). Public documents between the two countries therefore now use an apostille instead of the longer consular legalisation chain. The difference is explained in apostille vs consular legalisation.
a) Documents issued in Bangladesh for use in Vietnam
Public documents such as birth and marriage certificates, police certificates and degrees receive an apostille from the competent authority in Bangladesh and then a notarised Vietnamese translation (originals are usually in Bengali or English). No further legalisation by a Vietnamese mission is needed.
Fallback – consular legalisation: documents executed by diplomatic or consular agents (for example papers issued by the Bangladeshi embassy in Hanoi itself) and administrative documents dealing directly with commercial or customs operations fall outside the Apostille Convention. They still need certification and legalisation at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Hanoi) or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, or legalisation by the Vietnamese mission in Bangladesh, unless an international treaty provides an exemption.
b) Vietnamese documents for use in Bangladesh
Vietnamese public documents are apostilled by the Consular Department (MOFA) in Hanoi or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs and then translated into a language accepted in Bangladesh; legalisation at the Bangladeshi embassy is no longer required. Check translation requirements with the receiving authority in Bangladesh first.
Info Travel runs the whole chain: translation, notarisation, the MOFA/Department of Foreign Affairs stamp, and submission and collection at the mission. See our consular legalisation service. Quotes per file on WhatsApp +84327828822.
