Vietnam tourist e-visa: 30 days or 90 days?
The Vietnam e-visa is the standard travel visa for tourists of all nationalities. You choose the length of stay you need, up to a maximum of 90 days.
| Option | Typical trip | Government fee |
|---|---|---|
| Single entry, up to 30 days | One holiday, enter and leave once | USD 25 |
| Single entry, up to 90 days | Long trip or backpacking north to south | USD 25 |
| Multiple entry, up to 90 days | Side trips to Cambodia, Laos or Thailand and back into Vietnam | USD 50 |
The fee is the same whether you request 30 or 90 days, so pick a validity that covers your whole trip with a few days to spare. Processing usually takes about 3 working days; urgent processing is available.
Single or multiple entry?
- Single entry: once you leave Vietnam, the visa is used up, even if days remain.
- Multiple entry: you can leave and come back as many times as you like within the validity, ideal for a Southeast Asia loop such as Hanoi – Luang Prabang – Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City – Siem Reap – Phu Quoc.
How to get a Vietnam travel visa
- Step 1 – Prepare: a passport valid at least 30 days beyond the visa (6 months recommended), a scan of the passport photo page and a recent portrait photo on a white background.
- Step 2 – Apply online: on the official website evisa.gov.vn or through Info Travel, choosing your entry date, entry airport or border gate, and single or multiple entry.
- Step 3 – Pay and wait: pay the government fee online; the result usually arrives in about 3 working days.
- Step 4 – Print and travel: check every detail on the e-visa, print it and carry it with your passport. Before flying, also complete the free pre-arrival declaration.

Common mistakes with a Vietnam tourist visa
- Name, date of birth or passport number that does not match the passport exactly.
- Entering through a different airport or border gate than the one on the e-visa.
- Choosing single entry, then leaving for Cambodia or Laos and trying to re-enter.
- Arriving before the start date of the e-visa.
- Using look-alike websites that charge extra fees for the same government e-visa.
What if I stay longer than my visa?
Overstaying a tourist visa or visa-free period is fined, and you must clear the overstay before leaving Vietnam. A tourist e-visa generally cannot be extended once it has expired, and a serious overstay can affect future entry. If you need more time, act before your visa ends. See Vietnam visa overstay fine and Vietnam visa extension.
Vietnam tourist visa requirements
- Passport valid at least 30 days beyond the visa (6 months recommended) with a blank page.
- A passport photo-page scan and a recent portrait photo (white background, no glasses).
- Planned entry date, entry airport or border gate, and address in Vietnam.
- Payment card for the government fee (USD 25 single, USD 50 multiple entry).
- On arrival: printed e-visa, return or onward ticket if asked, enough funds for your stay.
A multiple visa for Vietnam (multiple-entry e-visa) is the right choice if you will leave and come back during the trip. You can apply online for any of these options – no embassy visit is needed.
