Consular services for Colombian citizens
The Hanoi consulate website lists these services:
- Ordinary passport (32 pages, valid 10 years) – photo and fingerprints are taken at the consulate.
- Emergency passport (8 pages, valid 7 months) under the Foreign Ministry’s general rules, for urgent situations.
- Online consular registration (Registro Consular) for Colombians living in Vietnam.
- Guidance on the Foreign Ministry’s online apostille and legalisation, including documents issued in Vietnam.
- In-person assistance at the consulate and visa information for foreigners travelling to Colombia.
The website does not detail notarial acts, signature recognition or civil registration in Hanoi, so call before you rely on them.
Before you visit
- Opening hours apply to visitors with a prior appointment – book through the “Agendamiento de citas” section or by calling +84 24 3936 5318.
- No photos needed for passports – they are taken on site. Bring your cédula or old passport.
- Minors must attend with a parent or legal representative and need an appointment.
- Cornerstone is an office tower; carry ID for building security.
- The office closes on Vietnamese and Colombian public holidays – call to confirm before travelling.
- Consular staff speak Spanish, English and Vietnamese.
- Google Maps lists 9 am–5 pm, but the consular desk only receives visitors in the appointment hours above – do not turn up late in the afternoon without a booking.
- For important procedures, send your questions in writing through the contact form first and bring the confirmed document list, as answers given at the counter are sometimes incomplete.
What foreigners usually need help with
Lost or stolen passport: report it to the ward police and obtain the report, then contact the consulate for a new or emergency passport. Your Vietnamese visa was in the old passport, so you will need a new visa or exit procedures for foreigners from the Immigration Department before leaving.
Passport expiring: delivery abroad can exceed 20 business days, so apply early. Once you have the new passport, transfer your visa or temporary residence card; if you need more time in Vietnam, see visa extension.
Marriage, birth, work permit: Colombian birth certificates, police records and diplomas need an apostille from Colombia for Vietnamese authorities, while Vietnamese certificates for a child born here must be processed for registration in Colombia.
Voting: Colombians abroad can register to vote at the consulate when the Cancillería announces it – watch the website before each election.
Family coming to visit? They can apply for a Vietnam e-visa online.
Colombian passport help in Vietnam
The Colombian consulate in Hanoi does process passports. You start with an online application, choose the Hanoi office, then attend in person for photo and fingerprints; the book is produced in Colombia and usually takes more than 20 business days. Since the applicant must attend, Info Travel assists only within what the consulate permits: help with the form and booking, translations of supporting papers and directions to the Cornerstone Building. After you receive the new passport, we transfer your visa or residence card and handle any exit or extension steps.
Consular legalisation, MOFA certification and notarised translation
Colombia has been an Apostille Convention party since 2001, and the Convention entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. For many public documents the apostille now replaces the old legalisation chain.
a) Colombian documents for use in Vietnam: get an online apostille from the Colombian Foreign Ministry (or legalisation by the Vietnamese embassy covering Colombia if a Vietnamese office insists), then a notarised translation into Vietnamese. The consulate’s site does not describe certifying documents locally, so do not assume the embassy can do it. Unless exempted by an international treaty, documents need an apostille or legalisation.
b) Vietnamese documents for use in Colombia: obtain an apostille (or consular certification) from the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs, plus a Spanish translation. The Colombian consulate site carries a notice on apostilles for Vietnamese documents – read it before submitting.
Info Travel runs the full chain: translation, notarisation, MOFA/DOFA stamp or apostille, submission and collection. See consular legalisation in Vietnam and apostille vs consular legalisation; quotes on WhatsApp +84327828822.
