The Ministry’s list does not show a fax, email or website for the consulate general; you can look it up under “Overseas missions” on mofa.gov.vn. If you live in the south of the country, call the consulate to confirm where to file your application; if unsure, contact the mission closest to you before travelling.

Main consular services

The embassy and consulate general provides consular services to two main groups:

  • Vietnamese citizens: issuing, renewing and replacing passports; civil status registration (births, marriages, deaths and recording events registered locally); nationality procedures; certification, legalisation and attestation of documents; citizen protection in case of accidents, lost documents or detention.
  • Foreign nationals: Vietnamese visas and legalisation of documents for use in Vietnam. Today most tourists and short-term business travellers apply for an e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn without visiting the mission; visas stamped at the mission are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for applicants who already hold an entry approval letter.

With a large Vietnamese community in Korea (workers, students and multicultural families), passport replacement, birth registration and marital status certificates see heavy demand. Check notices on the website before you go.

Do Korean citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

South Korean citizens are visa-exempt for up to 45 days per entry, regardless of passport type or purpose of travel, under Resolution 44/NQ-CP (valid from 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028). For longer stays, long-term work or frequent entries, you can apply for an e-visa at evisa.gov.vn, valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry (government fee USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple entry). See our guide on Vietnam visas for Korean citizens.

Legalising Korean documents for use in Vietnam

South Korea has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 2007, and the Convention entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. Korean public documents (university degrees, criminal record checks for work permits, marriage relationship certificates, etc.) are therefore normally apostilled by the competent Korean authority and then translated into Vietnamese with a notarised translation in Vietnam. Vietnamese documents for use in Korea are apostilled by the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs.

Where a document falls outside the Convention or the receiving authority asks otherwise, consular legalisation through the embassy still applies. See our consular legalisation service and work permit service.

FAQ

What are the opening hours of the embassy in Seoul?

The Ministry’s list does not state opening hours; please check the official website or call ahead.

Do I need an appointment?

It depends on the service. For passports, civil status and legalisation, check the latest instructions on the website or call before travelling to Seoul or Busan.

Should Koreans apply at the embassy or online?

Trips of up to 45 days need no visa. For longer stays, an online e-visa is the usual choice; embassy visas are mainly for diplomatic or official passports or for holders of an approval letter.
