Consular services for Israeli citizens
Because the embassy website could not be accessed, Info Travel only outlines the kinds of matters for which Israeli citizens typically need their mission:
- Consular protection in emergencies (accidents, lost documents, detention).
- Replacement travel documents after a passport is lost.
- Passports, civil registration and document certification – the exact scope must be confirmed directly.
- Help for Israeli backpackers in Vietnam after a road accident or loss of documents.
Once you know what you need, phone the embassy for the document checklist before you visit.
What to know before you visit
- Very narrow hours: the embassy mainly receives visitors in the morning (9:00–12:00); in the afternoon it opens for only one hour (13:00–14:00) on Mondays and Thursdays. Arrive early and avoid the last minutes before noon.
- Enter via the Hanoi Tower lobby: the embassy is on the 10th floor of the office tower at 49 Hai Ba Trung (now Cua Nam Ward), with no gate of its own on the street – check in at the building lobby, then take the lift.
- Call ahead and ask when consular applications are received.
- Bring your Israeli passport or a copy, the police loss report if any, photos and original supporting documents.
- Holidays: the embassy usually closes on Vietnamese holidays and Israeli holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover…).
- Expect a security check before entering the embassy floor.
- Call to secure a slot: visitor experiences vary, so phone +84 24 3718 7500 to confirm when your matter can be handled and what to bring, rather than turning up unannounced.
What foreigners typically need help with at the embassy
In practice, requests from Israeli nationals in Vietnam revolve around passports and documents. A few typical scenarios:
- Passport lost while travelling: get a police loss report where it happened → contact the embassy for an emergency travel document or replacement passport → obtain a new visa or exit visa from the Immigration Department before heading to the airport. See exit procedures for foreigners.
- Less than six months of passport validity: get the new passport, then transfer your visa or temporary residence card; if you need to stay longer, add a visa extension.
- Getting married or acknowledging a child in Vietnam: prepare a certificate of marital status, birth certificate and passport copies with legalisation and a Vietnamese translation.
- Applying for a work permit: degrees, criminal record checks and experience letters must be legalised before filing.
- Signing powers of attorney or statements for authorities at home: these often have to be signed before a consular officer.
If you simply need to come back to Vietnam after a short trip, look at the Vietnam e-visa options.
Getting an Israeli passport in Vietnam
Many Israeli residents only notice their passport is expiring when they apply to extend their stay – check its validity at least six months ahead.
We could not verify whether the Embassy of Israel in Hanoi issues or renews passports in Vietnam. If your passport is nearing expiry, ask the embassy early whether it can be done in Hanoi or must be filed in Israel. When a passport is lost, the usual solution is an emergency travel document issued by the embassy for the journey home.
Wherever the passport itself is produced, the Vietnamese side still has to be sorted out. Info Travel handles translations, helps you prepare the replacement-document file as instructed by the mission, then obtains a new visa or exit visa, or transfers your temporary residence card to the new passport. Anything involving the Israeli mission is done only within what it allows; applicants usually submit in person when asked.
Consular legalisation, MOFA / Department of Foreign Affairs certification and notarised translation
Vietnam has acceded to the Apostille Convention (accession deposited 31 December 2025, in force from 11 September 2026). Israel is a Contracting State and did not object to Vietnam’s accession, so from 11 September 2026 documents between the two countries mainly use the apostille; consular legalisation is only a fallback.
a) Israeli documents for use in Vietnam: obtain an apostille from the competent Israeli apostille authority (depending on the document), then a notarised Vietnamese translation, and the document can be filed with Vietnamese authorities. If an office still requires legalisation, the old route is certification in Israel and legalisation at the Vietnamese mission responsible for Israel, unless an international treaty provides an exemption.
b) Vietnamese documents for use in Israel: get an apostille from the Consular Department (Hanoi) or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, plus a translation if the Israeli side requires one. Only if an Israeli authority still demands legalisation do you need consular certification followed by legalisation at the Israeli embassy (ask first whether it offers this).
Every step – notarised translation, the apostille or the Consular Department / HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs stamp, filing at the Israeli mission and collecting the result – can be handled by Info Travel within what the authorities allow.
