Common reasons foreigners contact their consulate in Vietnam
Passport lost in HCMC: report to the Vietnamese police, apply for a replacement through the consulate, then get a new visa or complete exit procedures because the old visa is gone.
Renewing while working in Vietnam: apply early through ICA; once the new passport arrives, transfer your visa or temporary residence card. Meanwhile a visa extension may help.
A child born in Vietnam: register the birth in Vietnam, have the certificate translated and certified, then register Singapore citizenship by descent at the consulate.
Marriage: Singapore papers need an apostille and a notarised Vietnamese translation; Vietnamese papers need an apostille or legalisation for Singapore.
Partners and relatives from outside ASEAN can read about the Vietnam e-visa.
Help with a Singapore passport in Vietnam
The consulate lists Singapore passport application and renewal among its services; applications are mainly lodged online through ICA. Ask the consulate how collection works – applicants normally attend in person for identity checks. The consulate advises renewing early, as many countries require at least six months’ validity.
Info Travel helps with appointment requests, photos, translations and directions to Saigon Centre, then transfers your visa/TRC and handles immigration formalities – within what the consulate permits.
Consular legalisation, MOFA certification and notarised translation
Singapore joined the Apostille Convention on 16 September 2021 and Vietnam applies it from 11 September 2026, so the apostille is the preferred route; legalisation at the consulate remains a fallback.
a) Singapore documents for use in Vietnam: get an apostille from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), then a notarised Vietnamese translation. According to the consulate, computer-generated and commercial documents must first be certified (by SAL, a Chamber of Commerce or the Singapore Manufacturing Federation), and non-government documents need a Singapore notary public. Unless exempted under an international treaty, documents need an apostille or legalisation.
b) Vietnamese documents for use in Singapore: the main route is an apostille from the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs (or the Consular Department in Hanoi). If the Singapore side wants legalisation, the consulate publishes this chain: notarisation at a Vietnamese notary or justice office → certification by the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs → legalisation at the consulate. Documents for Singapore courts need certified English translations.
Info Travel handles everything in HCMC: Vietnamese–English translation, notarisation, apostille or DOFA stamp, booking and submission at the consulate. See consular legalisation in Vietnam and apostille vs consular legalisation; quotes on WhatsApp.
