Vietnam Family Visa TT for Spouses and Children
The TT visa is for foreigners visiting or living with family in Vietnam. It is sponsored by a Vietnamese citizen or by a foreigner who already holds a temporary residence card.
Who can be sponsored
- Spouse and children of a Vietnamese citizen
- Parents of a Vietnamese citizen
- Spouse and children under 18 of a foreigner holding a temporary residence card
Proof of relationship
| Relationship | Document |
|---|---|
| Spouse | Marriage certificate — if issued abroad, consularly legalised and translated into Vietnamese |
| Child | Birth certificate naming the sponsoring parent |
| Parent | Birth certificate of the sponsoring child |
| Family of a card holder | Copy of the sponsor valid residence card plus relationship documents |
Validity and limits
The TT visa is granted for up to 12 months and can be extended with form NA5. It does not permit employment: working requires a work permit and an LD visa. For stays beyond a year, a TT residence card of up to three years is usually the better option.
Overseas Vietnamese families
If the foreign spouse or child is related to a person of Vietnamese origin, a 5-year visa exemption certificate may be cheaper: it allows 180 days per entry over five years.
