Vietnam Visa Exemption 2026: Which Nationalities Are Visa-Free
As of September 2026 Vietnam grants unilateral visa exemption to citizens of 24 countries with a 45-day stay, under two government resolutions, plus bilateral exemptions with ASEAN neighbours and a separate regime for Phu Quoc.
45 days under Resolution 44/NQ-CP
Valid 15 March 2025 – 14 March 2028, any purpose of entry, any passport type: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland.
45 days under Resolution 229/NQ-CP
Valid 15 August 2025 – 14 August 2028, for tourism: Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.

Phu Quoc
Foreigners entering Phu Quoc directly from a third country, including transit through a Vietnamese international gate, are exempt for up to 30 days. Passports must be valid at least 45 days. Travelling on to the mainland requires a visa issued locally.
When the exemption runs out
Visa exemption cannot be extended like a visa. The options are to apply for a new visa in Vietnam through a sponsor (visa services), to leave and re-enter (visa run), or to apply for a 90-day e-visa before the stay expires. Overstaying is fined from 500,000 VND to 10,000,000 VND depending on the number of days.
Three things travellers miss
- 45 days is per entry, not per year — but frequent back-to-back entries attract questions at the border.
- Passports must be valid at least 6 months from the date of entry.
- Visa-exempt status does not allow employment; working requires a work permit and an LD visa.
