Consular services for Morocco citizens
Morocco’s foreign ministry site and the consulat.ma portal rejected our requests, so the embassy’s service list is unverified. Moroccans abroad typically need their mission for:
- consular registration (immatriculation consulaire);
- civil-status documents: births, marriages to foreign nationals;
- a laissez-passer after losing a passport;
- signature certification and powers of attorney for use in Morocco.
Call the embassy to find out which of these are handled in Hanoi and what to prepare.
What to know before you go
- Don’t turn up unannounced: ask whether you need an appointment, which days applications are accepted and when to collect.
- ID to bring: your Morocco passport (including expired ones if you have them), proof of residence in Vietnam and photos to Morocco’s specifications.
- Closures cover both Vietnamese public holidays and Morocco’s national and religious holidays.
- Follow the security rules at the entrance; phones and bags may be checked.
- Emails to the embassy may go unanswered for days; if your matter is urgent, phone and ask for the name of the person handling it so you can follow up.
- The first person on the phone and at the door is usually Vietnamese reception staff; explain your matter briefly and ask to be put through to the consular officer.
- Moroccan citizens speak well of the help they get once they reach the right section – have papers ready in French or Arabic to save time.
Common reasons foreigners contact the embassy
Most Morocco nationals contact their mission for one of four reasons:
- Lost passport: police report → emergency travel document or new passport from the mission → new visa or exit procedures, because the old visa was in the lost passport.
- Expired or full passport: after renewal, transfer your visa or temporary residence card to the new passport at the immigration office.
- Marriage, a child’s birth, a work permit: certificates of single status, birth certificates and criminal records need legalisation and a notarised translation.
- Signature certification, powers of attorney, citizen or overseas voter registration.
For a visa extension or an Vietnam e-visa for visiting relatives, you deal with the Vietnamese authorities.
Help with Morocco passport applications in Vietnam
There is no current official information confirming whether Morocco’s mission in Vietnam issues or renews passports on site. If it does not, the usual options are applying through the passport authority at home (in person or via relatives, where Morocco’s law allows) or obtaining an emergency travel document to return home and apply there.
Where passports are issued, applicants normally attend in person for photos and biometrics. Info Travel helps within what the mission permits: checking requirements and booking, forms, photos, translating Vietnamese documents and directions. On the Vietnamese side we handle everything: extending your stay while you wait, transferring your visa or temporary residence card to the new passport, a new visa or exit procedures if you travel on an emergency document.
Consular legalisation, certification (MOFA / HCMC External Relations stamps) and notarised translation
Vietnam acceded to the Apostille Convention on 31 December 2025 and it has applied to Vietnam since 11 September 2026. Morocco is also a party and is not among the states that objected to Vietnam’s accession (HCCH status table), so between the two countries an apostille can replace consular legalisation. Background: apostille vs consular legalisation.
a) Morocco documents for use in Vietnam: obtain an apostille from Morocco’s competent authority, then a Vietnamese notarised translation. If the receiving authority still asks for the traditional route: certification by Morocco’s competent authority plus legalisation at the Vietnamese mission in Morocco, or certification by Morocco’s mission in Vietnam (if offered) followed by legalisation at the Consular Department (MOFA, Hanoi) or the HCMC Department of External Relations – unless exempted under an international treaty.
b) Vietnamese documents for use in Morocco: obtain an apostille from the competent Vietnamese authority, with a translation. If Morocco still requires legalisation: consular certification at the Consular Department or HCMC External Relations, then legalisation at Morocco’s mission (ask first whether it accepts them).
Documents for Morocco usually need a French or Arabic translation; Info Travel works with translators for both.
Info Travel handles the whole chain: translation, notarisation, MOFA/External Relations stamps (or apostille), and submission and collection at the mission. See our consular legalisation service; quotes on WhatsApp +84327828822.
