Consular services for Omani citizens

The embassy’s service list is not published in the sources we checked. Omani missions typically assist citizens with:

  • protection after accidents, hospitalisation, arrest or lost documents;
  • travel documents to return to Oman when a passport is lost;
  • certifying signatures, powers of attorney and documents for use in Oman;
  • support for students, patients and business travellers.

Visitors have described friendly staff and quick service, but the exact scope of services in Hanoi should be confirmed with the embassy.

Before you visit

  • Check the contact channel: some people have reported the old phone and email not working. Try the number above; if it fails, go through the Ministry in Muscat or ask Info Travel to help find a current contact.
  • Location: the embassy faces West Lake on Trich Sai Street, easy to reach by taxi.
  • Bring: your Omani passport or ID card, your Vietnamese visa/residence card, and copies of documents to be certified.
  • Closures: Vietnamese and Omani holidays (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha follow the Islamic calendar; Omani National Day). Hours may be shorter during Ramadan.

What foreigners commonly need help with

Lost or stolen passport. Get a police confirmation from the ward police and contact the embassy for a travel document. You then need a new visa or exit procedures, because your Vietnamese visa was in the lost passport.

Passport expiring in Vietnam. Ask the embassy about renewal; when you have the new passport, transfer your visa or temporary residence card. Meanwhile a visa extension keeps you from overstaying.

Marriage, investment, employment. Omani business people and workers need company papers, police certificates and degrees with an apostille and a notarised Arabic–Vietnamese translation.

Tourism. Omani citizens on short trips can use the Vietnam e-visa.

Omani passport help in Vietnam

We could not verify whether the Omani Embassy in Hanoi accepts passport applications or renewals locally. Some missions only issue emergency travel documents while ordinary passports are issued at home. Ask the embassy first.

If passports are issued locally, applicants normally attend in person for photos and fingerprints. Info Travel assists within what the embassy permits: checking requirements, photos, translating Vietnamese documents into English/Arabic, and directions. On the Vietnamese side we handle stay extensions, transferring your visa/TRC to the new passport and exit formalities when needed.

Consular legalisation, apostille, MOFA/DFA stamps and notarised translation

Oman joined the Apostille Convention in 2012 and did not object to Vietnam’s accession. The Convention applies to Vietnam from 11 September 2026, so the apostille is the main route between the two countries. Background: apostille vs consular legalisation.

a) Omani documents for use in Vietnam: obtain an apostille from Oman’s competent authority, then a notarised Arabic–Vietnamese translation. If the receiving office still wants the old method: authentication in Oman plus legalisation by the Vietnamese mission accredited to Oman, or certification at the Omani Embassy in Hanoi (if offered) followed by legalisation at the Consular Department or HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs – unless exempted under an international treaty.

b) Vietnamese documents for use in Oman: apostille from the Consular Department (MOFA, Hanoi) or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, with an Arabic or English translation as Oman requires. Consular certification and embassy legalisation are only needed if Oman specifically asks.

Info Travel runs the whole chain: Arabic/English translation, notarisation, apostille/MOFA stamp, submission and collection. See consular legalisation in Vietnam; quotes on WhatsApp +84327828822.
