Consular services for Argentine citizens

  • Passports: new and replacement chip passports for Argentines resident in Vietnam; delivery takes about 45 days.
  • Emergency passport (pasaporte de emergencia): only for a justified emergency, usually ready the next working day, and you must apply for an ordinary passport at the same visit.
  • DNI (Argentine national ID) and change of address abroad.
  • Civil registry: registering births, marriages and deaths; requesting certificates registered in Argentina; consular registration (Libro de Matrícula); option for Argentine nationality.
  • Notarial acts: powers of attorney, signature certification, certified true copies (copia fiel).
  • Certificates: criminal record, residence abroad, proof of life (supervivencia).
  • Legalisation of Vietnamese documents for use in Argentina; apostille and internationally valid legalisations of Argentine documents; travel permits for minors.

What to know before you visit

  • Book a turno by emailing consulareviet@mrecic.gov.ar at least two working days ahead with a scan of your DNI; confirmation normally arrives within 24 hours.
  • Bring your latest original DNI and previous passport – or a police report if it was lost or stolen.
  • Leadvisors Place has a building reception; arrive a few minutes early to register for the 4th floor.
  • Closed on Vietnamese and Argentine public holidays (e.g. 25 May and 9 July). Fees are listed on the website together with accepted payment methods.
  • There is no embassy sign at street level and the building entrance is around the corner; Google Maps lists the building as Sentinel Place – the embassy is on the 4th floor.
  • Google Maps shows opening hours of 9:30–16:00 on weekdays; consular matters are still handled by appointment only.
  • Vietnamese applying for an Argentine visa: email scans of your documents for review and an appointment, then submit the originals in person, pay the fee in USD and attend the interview; results usually come within 2–3 working days.
  • Passports and DNI ordered through the embassy are produced in Argentina and can take around two to three months; the embassy calls when they arrive. In an emergency, a temporary passport can be arranged very quickly, sometimes the same day.

What foreigners usually need help with at the embassy

Some real-life situations Argentine nationals in Vietnam run into:

  • Passport lost while travelling: police report → new passport/emergency travel document from the embassy → new visa or exit visa from immigration. Skip the last step and you may be stopped at the airport.
  • Renewing a passport while resident: a residence card or visa does not move to a new passport automatically – it must be transferred. See our pages on the temporary residence card and visa extensions.
  • Marrying a Vietnamese citizen, registering a child’s birth, applying for a work permit: you will need Argentina documents such as proof of marital status, birth certificates and police records – all legalised and translated with notarisation.
  • Signature certification on powers of attorney or contracts for use in Argentina.
  • Citizen registration or voter updates where Argentina law allows.

Help with Argentine passports in Vietnam

The Argentine embassy in Hanoi accepts ordinary passport applications (chip passport, ready in about 45 days) and emergency passports for citizens resident in Vietnam. Applications are lodged in person by email appointment; the applicant must attend for biometrics and photo.

Info Travel supports the whole process around the mission’s own part: booking the appointment, completing forms, compliant photos, translating Vietnamese documents you need to attach, and guiding or accompanying you. Once the new passport arrives, we transfer your visa or temporary residence card to it and handle any exit or extension procedures.

Note: applicants normally attend in person for biometrics and signature; Info Travel only assists within what the Argentina mission permits and does not apply or decide on your behalf.

Consular legalisation, consular certification (MOFA / Department of Foreign Affairs stamp) and notarised translation

The Apostille Convention has applied to Vietnam since 11 September 2026, and Argentina is also a party. Public documents between the two countries therefore now use an apostille instead of the longer consular legalisation chain. The difference is explained in apostille vs consular legalisation.

a) Documents issued in Argentina for use in Vietnam

Public documents such as birth and marriage certificates, police certificates and degrees receive an apostille from the competent authority in Argentina and then a notarised Vietnamese translation (originals are usually in Spanish). No further legalisation by a Vietnamese mission is needed.

Fallback – consular legalisation: documents executed by diplomatic or consular agents (for example papers issued by the Argentine embassy in Hanoi itself) and administrative documents dealing directly with commercial or customs operations fall outside the Apostille Convention. They still need certification and legalisation at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Hanoi) or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, or legalisation by the Vietnamese mission in Argentina, unless an international treaty provides an exemption.

b) Vietnamese documents for use in Argentina

Vietnamese public documents are apostilled by the Consular Department (MOFA) in Hanoi or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs and then translated into a language accepted in Argentina; legalisation at the Argentine embassy is no longer required. Check translation requirements with the receiving authority in Argentina first.

The Argentine embassy previously legalised Vietnamese documents (originals showing date, signature, signer’s name and position, in Spanish or English or with a translation). For commercial papers such as VCCI-endorsed certificates of origin, which may fall outside the Apostille Convention, ask the embassy about legalisation.

Info Travel runs the whole chain: translation, notarisation, the MOFA/Department of Foreign Affairs stamp, and submission and collection at the mission. See our consular legalisation service. Quotes per file on WhatsApp +84327828822.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment for an Argentine passport in Hanoi?

Yes. Applications are in person and by appointment only – email consulareviet@mrecic.gov.ar at least two working days ahead with a scan of your DNI.

I live in Ho Chi Minh City – which office do I use?

The embassy in Hanoi covers all of Vietnam, so passport applications are lodged in Hanoi. Info Travel can prepare your file in advance and handle the Vietnamese visa side in Ho Chi Minh City.

How do I prepare a Vietnamese document for Argentina?

Since 11 September 2026 a Vietnamese public document only needs an apostille from the Consular Department (MOFA) or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, plus a Spanish translation if the Argentine authority asks for one; embassy legalisation is no longer needed.

How long is an Argentine emergency passport valid?

Up to one year, with no extension, and only issued in a genuine emergency or force-majeure situation.
