Health Check for a Vietnam Work Permit
Foreigners applying for a Vietnam work permit need a health certificate from a licensed medical facility, valid for 12 months. The exam follows Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT (amended by Circular 25/2026/TT-BYT): physical measurements, clinical exams and lab tests (blood, urine, chest X-ray). There is no special list of “designated hospitals”: any facility licensed by the provincial Department of Health to perform health checks can issue it. Foreign health certificates are accepted only where a mutual-recognition agreement exists.

Legal basis
- Decree 219/2025/ND-CP on foreign workers (effective 7 August 2025, replacing Decrees 152/2020 and 70/2023) lists the health certificate as a required work permit document, unless the result is already in the national database.
- Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT on health examinations, amended by Circular 25/2026/TT-BYT; adults use Form 03.
Validity
12 months from the date the conclusion is signed. Book the exam close to your filing date.
What the exam covers
- Physical: height, weight, BMI, pulse, blood pressure.
- Clinical: internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology (women), eyes, ENT, dental, dermatology.
- Lab and imaging: blood count, blood chemistry, urinalysis, chest X-ray. Hospital packages may include extra tests; ask for the “work permit health check” package.
Where to go
Any hospital or clinic licensed to perform health checks under Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT. Many foreigners choose hospitals with international departments and English-speaking staff; results usually take 1–2 days. Confirm the hospital issues the current official form.
Foreign certificates
Under Decree 219/2025/ND-CP, a foreign health certificate is accepted only if Vietnam and that country have a mutual-recognition agreement and it is less than 12 months old. In practice, most applicants take the exam in Vietnam.
