Approval letters

How long does an approval letter take?

Five working days from a complete file. Urgent handling is possible for some categories.

How much is the stamping fee at the airport?

25 USD for a single-entry visa, 50 USD for multiple entry valid under three months, paid in cash to the immigration counter.

Can I enter earlier than the date on the letter?

No. If your plans change, a new letter must be issued.

Visa and extensions

What is the difference between single and multiple entry?

A single-entry visa is used up once you leave Vietnam. Multiple entry allows unlimited entries within the validity — worth it if you travel regionally.

How long does an extension take?

Five to seven working days. File at least 10 days before expiry so there is room for supplementation.

What happens if I overstay?

Fines run from 500,000 VND (under 16 days) to 10,000,000 VND (30 to under 60 days), and repeat overstays affect future entries. See overstay penalties.

Visa exemption

Which nationalities are visa-free?

24 nationalities have 45-day unilateral exemption, plus ASEAN bilateral arrangements of 14–30 days. Full list: exempt countries.

Can visa-free days be extended?

No. You either obtain a visa through a sponsor inside Vietnam, or leave and re-enter on a new document.

Residence cards

How long can a residence card last?

Two years for employees, three years for family members, up to five years for larger investors — and since July 2026 the forms allow up to ten years for privileged categories.
