General tips for land borders
- Only international gates are open to foreigners; main gates, secondary gates and border openings are for residents of the two countries.
- The e-visa form asks for your entry port; enter through the gate you selected. See entering Vietnam by e-visa at a land border.
- Passport valid for at least 6 months; bring USD cash for the neighbouring country visa.
- Do not ride a rented motorbike across the border: vehicles need separate temporary import papers.
- Gates close in the evening and can close temporarily on holidays; arrive before 16:00.
- After returning, your accommodation must file the temporary residence declaration within 12 hours.
