Main consular services
The Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore provides consular services to two main groups:
- Vietnamese citizens: issuing, renewing and replacing passports; civil status registration (births, marriages, deaths and recording events registered locally); nationality procedures; certification, legalisation and attestation of documents; citizen protection in case of accidents, lost documents or detention.
- Foreign nationals: Vietnamese visas and legalisation of documents for use in Vietnam. Today most tourists and short-term business travellers apply for an e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn without visiting the mission; visas stamped at the mission are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for applicants who already hold an entry approval letter.
Singapore has a sizeable Vietnamese community of students, workers and spouses, so passport replacement, birth registration for children born in Singapore and marital status certificates are among the most common requests. Forms, document lists and submission schedules are published on the embassy website.
Do Singapore citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
Singapore passport holders are visa-exempt for stays of up to 30 days under ASEAN arrangements (see our Vietnam visa exemption list). For longer stays, work or repeated entries, you can apply for an e-visa at evisa.gov.vn, valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry (government fee USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple entry). Foreign residents of Singapore who hold other passports follow the rules for their own nationality; see Vietnam visa by nationality.
Legalising Singapore documents for use in Vietnam
Vietnam has joined the Apostille Convention (in force for Vietnam since 11 September 2026), and Singapore has been a party since 2021. Singapore public documents such as degrees, criminal record certificates and marriage certificates therefore normally only need an apostille from the Singapore Academy of Law, followed by a notarised Vietnamese translation in Vietnam. Vietnamese documents for use in Singapore are apostilled by the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs.
For documents outside the Convention’s scope, or if a Vietnamese authority asks for it, the consular legalisation route via the embassy remains available. See our consular legalisation service and the work permit guide if you are moving to Vietnam for work.

FAQ
What are the embassy’s opening hours?
The Ministry’s list does not state opening hours. Please check the official website for reception hours and for Vietnamese and Singapore public holidays.
Do I need an appointment?
Some services, such as passports and civil status, may require an appointment or follow specific submission instructions. Check the latest notices on the website before going.
Should Singaporeans apply at the embassy or online?
Most trips under 30 days need no visa at all. For longer stays an e-visa is the quickest option; visas at the embassy are mainly for diplomatic or official passports or for holders of an approval letter.
