Details from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal, list of Vietnamese representative missions abroad (October 2026). The ministry portal does not publish opening hours; check the embassy’s official website or call before visiting. Full list of missions: mofa.gov.vn (Representative Missions).
According to the ministry list, Vietnam has no consulate-general in Belgium; the embassy in Brussels is the main consular point of contact.
Main consular services
For Vietnamese citizens
- Passport issuance and renewal; travel documents if a passport is lost;
- Civil status registration: births, marriages, deaths, certificates of marital status;
- Nationality matters: renunciation, restoration, confirmation of Vietnamese nationality;
- Consular certification and legalisation; certified copies and signature attestation;
- Citizen protection in case of accidents, detention or lost documents.
For foreigners
- Vietnam visas: most travellers now apply for an e-visa online; embassy visas are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for holders of an approved entry approval letter;
- Legalisation of documents issued in Belgium for use in Vietnam (where required).
Requirements, fees and processing times are published by the embassy; check its official website before applying.
Do Belgian citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
Not for short tourist trips. Belgian citizens enjoy a 45-day unilateral visa exemption under Resolution 229/NQ-CP, valid from 15 August 2025 to 14 August 2028, for tourism (see the Vietnam visa exemption list).
For stays over 45 days, or for work, investment or study, you need a visa matching the purpose. The usual route is an e-visa applied for online on the official portal evisa.gov.vn: valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, with a government fee of USD 25 (single) or USD 50 (multiple). For help with the application, see our Vietnam e-visa service. Work and investment visas are normally issued on the basis of an approval letter from a Vietnamese sponsor.
Legalising documents from Belgium for use in Vietnam
Foreign documents commonly used in Vietnam:
- Degrees and transcripts – for work permits or further study;
- Criminal record certificates – required for a work permit;
- Birth certificates, certificates of marital status, marriage certificates – for marriage, family visas and residence cards;
- Company documents and powers of attorney.
Vietnam acceded to the Apostille Convention on 31 December 2025, and the Convention entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. Belgium is a Contracting State, so public documents issued in Belgium now generally need only an apostille from the competent Belgian authority, followed by a notarised Vietnamese translation in Vietnam – no embassy legalisation. In the other direction, Vietnamese documents for use in Belgium are apostilled by the Consular Department (MOFA) or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs.
Because the rules are new, confirm with the receiving authority in Vietnam first; consular legalisation (certification by the Belgian foreign ministry, then legalisation at the Vietnamese embassy in Brussels) remains the fallback.
Info Travel handles consular legalisation and notarised translation on the Vietnamese side and advises on work permit applications.

FAQ
What are the embassy’s opening hours?
The ministry portal does not list opening hours. Check vnembassy-bruxelles.mofa.gov.vn or call +32 (0)2 379 27 33 before visiting.
Do I need an appointment?
It is best to contact the embassy by phone or email first to confirm the documents and when they are accepted, especially for passports, civil status and legalisation.
Should I apply at the embassy or online?
Tourist trips under 45 days need no visa. If you do need one (longer stays, work), the e-visa is the easiest; embassy visas are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or when an approval letter names the embassy as the pick-up point.
