Main consular services of the Embassy of Vietnam in Cuba
The exact list of procedures, forms and fees is published on the mission’s website.
For Vietnamese citizens living in Cuba
- Issuing, renewing and replacing passports; travel documents after a passport is lost.
- Civil status: birth, marriage and death registration, recording events registered locally, marital status certificates.
- Nationality applications (confirmation, regaining or renouncing Vietnamese nationality).
- Consular certification and legalisation; notarial and attestation services.
- Citizen protection in case of accidents, lost documents, detention or emergencies.
For foreigners
The mission issues visas to Vietnam, but most tourists and short-term business visitors now apply for an e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn (up to 90 days, single or multiple entry). Embassy visas are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for applicants who already hold an approval letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department.
Do Cuban citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
According to the current exemption list, Cuban citizens holding ordinary passports are not visa-exempt. The most common route is the e-visa: up to 90 days, government fee USD 25 (single entry) or USD 50 (multiple entry). If you need a visa in your passport, apply at the embassy or use an approval letter to collect the visa at the airport.
Holders of diplomatic or official passports should check with the embassy, as separate agreements may apply. See also our Vietnam visa guide by nationality and the Vietnam visa exemption list.
Legalising documents from Cuba for use in Vietnam
Cuba is not a party to the Apostille Convention (which has applied to Vietnam since 11 September 2026), so documents issued in Cuba still need consular legalisation before Vietnamese authorities will accept them (unless exempted by a treaty or on a reciprocal basis). Typical documents:
- Degrees and transcripts – proof of qualifications for a work permit;
- Criminal record certificates issued in Cuba – a required part of work permit files;
- Birth certificates, marriage certificates and single-status documents – for civil status matters and family residence cards.
As a rule, the document is first certified by the competent authority in Cuba and then legalised at the Vietnamese mission there. If the original is already in Vietnam, certification and consular legalisation can also be arranged inside Vietnam under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs procedure. See our consular legalisation service and the Vietnam work permit rules 2026; once legalised, documents need a notarised Vietnamese translation.

FAQ
What are the opening hours of the Embassy of Vietnam in Cuba?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal does not list opening hours for this mission. Please check the official website or phone ahead, and note closures on both Vietnamese and local public holidays.
Do I need an appointment?
No general appointment rule is published by the Ministry. Email or call first to confirm the documents required and when applications are received.
Should I apply at the embassy or get an e-visa?
For tourism or short business trips the e-visa is usually easier: apply online, receive the result by email and enter through any designated international checkpoint. An embassy visa makes sense for diplomatic or official passports, or if you already hold an approval letter and want the visa in your passport before departure.
