Main consular services

For Vietnamese citizens in Algeria

  • Passport issuance and renewal; travel documents after a lost passport.
  • Civil status: birth registration for children born in Algeria, marriage registration, recording of civil-status events.
  • Nationality matters (confirmation, renunciation or restoration of Vietnamese nationality).
  • Certification of signatures and copies; legalisation of documents.
  • Citizen protection in case of accidents, arrest, lost documents or other emergencies.

For foreigners

  • Vietnamese visas: most tourists and business travellers now apply online for an e-visa; visas at the embassy are mainly for diplomatic or official passport holders or applicants who already have an approval letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department.
  • Consular legalisation of documents issued in Algeria for use in Vietnam.

Do Algerian citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Algeria is not on the list of Vietnam visa-exempt countries for ordinary passports. The easiest option is an e-visa from the official portal evisa.gov.vn: valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, with a government fee of USD 25 (single) or USD 50 (multiple). Our step-by-step e-visa application guide explains the photo, passport and itinerary details you need.

For longer stays for work, investment or family visits, the company or sponsor in Vietnam first obtains a visa approval letter, and the visa is then issued at the embassy in Algiers or at an international border gate in Vietnam. Rules by country are summarised on our Vietnam visa by nationality page.

Legalising documents from Algeria for use in Vietnam

Algerian nationals who work, marry or study in Vietnam are often asked for degrees, police certificates, birth certificates or proof of marital status. A Vietnam work permit application, for example, requires a recognised degree and criminal record certificate.

From 11 September 2026, documents issued in Algeria for use in Vietnam can be certified with an apostille instead of consular legalisation (the Convention has applied to Algeria since 9 July 2026 and to Vietnam since 11 September 2026; Algeria did not object to Vietnam’s accession). Confirm with the receiving authority in Vietnam; a certified Vietnamese translation is still required. For cases outside the Convention, the consular legalisation route is:

  1. Have the document certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or other competent authority) of Algeria.
  2. Have it legalised by the Embassy of Vietnam in Algiers.
  3. In Vietnam, get a notarised translation from Arabic or French into Vietnamese and file it with the receiving authority.

If you are already in Vietnam and cannot easily travel back, Info Travel can advise on the most practical consular legalisation route for each document.

FAQ

What are the opening hours of the Embassy of Vietnam in Algeria?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal does not publish the embassy’s opening hours. Check the official website vnembassy-algiers.mofa.gov.vn or call ahead, keeping in mind public holidays in both Vietnam and Algeria.

Do I need an appointment?

It is best to contact the embassy first by phone or email to confirm the documents required and when applications are received, especially for passports, civil status or legalisation.

Should I apply for a visa at the embassy or online?

For tourism or short business trips of up to 90 days, an e-visa is the simplest choice because you do not need to visit the embassy. Applying at the embassy makes sense for diplomatic or official passports, or when you already hold an approval letter.
