Main consular services

For Vietnamese citizens in Brazil

  • Passport issuance, renewal and replacement; travel documents to return home after losing a passport.
  • Civil status registration: births, marriages, deaths, and recording events registered locally.
  • Nationality matters (confirmation, renunciation, restoration of Vietnamese nationality).
  • Consular certification, legalisation and notarial services.
  • Citizen protection in case of accidents, arrest or lost documents.

For foreigners

  • Visas: most travellers now apply for an e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn; embassy visas are mainly for diplomatic or official passports, or for applicants who already hold an approval letter.
  • Consular legalisation of local documents for use in Vietnam.

Do Brazilians need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Brazil is not on the Vietnam visa exemption list, so Brazilians need a visa. The usual option is the e-visa: valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, with a government fee of USD 25 (single) or USD 50 (multiple), applied for online at evisa.gov.vn. See our Vietnam e-visa service.

For long-term visas (work, family visit, investment) or a visa on arrival, you first need a visa approval letter approved by the Vietnam Immigration Department.

Legalising Brazilian documents for use in Vietnam

Degrees and police certificates (for work permits), marriage and birth certificates issued in Brazil must be authenticated before Vietnamese authorities accept them.

Vietnam has acceded to the Apostille Convention, which entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. Brazil is also a party, so public documents from Brazil generally only need an apostille from the competent Brazilian authority (in Brazil apostilles are generally issued by notary offices – cartórios), followed by a Vietnamese translation certified in Vietnam. Because the rule is new, some receiving offices may still ask about consular legalisation – check with the office in advance. Legalisation through the Vietnamese embassy in Brazil remains a fallback.

In the other direction, Vietnamese documents for use in Brazil can be apostilled by the Consular Department (MOFA) or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs.

FAQ

What are the opening hours of the Vietnamese embassy in Brazil?

The MOFA portal does not list opening hours. Check the official website in the table above or call ahead; the embassy is usually closed on Vietnamese and local public holidays.

Do I need an appointment?

It is best to contact the embassy by phone or email first to confirm the documents required and when applications are received, so you do not have to make several trips.

Should I apply at the embassy or get an e-visa?

For tourism or short business trips, the e-visa is faster and more convenient. An embassy visa suits diplomatic or official passport holders, or applicants who already have an approval letter.
