Saudi Arabia has no consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang, so all consular matters go through the embassy in Hanoi.
Consular services for Saudi citizens
The embassy website does not publish a detailed list of consular services; its services section links to Saudi government e-portals:
- Absher – the Interior Ministry portal where citizens handle many passport and personal-document procedures online.
- Najiz – the justice portal (powers of attorney, e-notarisation and more).
- MOFA digital services (mofa.gov.sa) and the KSA Visa platform.
For anything requiring a visit – a lost passport, an emergency travel document, certification of papers – email the consular section (vicon@mofa.gov.sa) first for instructions.
What to know before you go
- Go to the right building: visitors have turned up at 48A Tran Phu following the outdated Google Maps pin. Head to Lotte Center (54 Lieu Giai) and go up to the 20th floor via the office lobby.
- The phone number on the old Google Maps pin (+84 24 3726 4376) differs from the one on the official website (+84 24 3726 4373) – use the official number.
- Office towers usually require you to register at reception; carry your passport or ID.
- Email before visiting; appointment arrangements are not published.
- The embassy is closed on Vietnamese public holidays, Saudi National Day (23 September), Founding Day (22 February) and the Eid holidays (dates follow the Islamic calendar).
Common reasons foreigners contact their embassy in Vietnam
Lost passport: report it to the local police for a loss certificate, then contact the embassy for a travel document. Your Vietnamese visa was in the old passport, so arrange a new visa or exit procedures before flying.
Passport nearing expiry: renew as instructed by the embassy or via Absher, then transfer your visa or temporary residence card; if you need more time, apply for a visa extension.
Students, employees, investors: Saudi degrees, birth certificates and police records need an apostille and a notarised Vietnamese translation for a work permit or marriage registration.
Businesses: Vietnamese commercial papers going to Saudi Arabia (tenders, Halal product registration and the like) follow the apostille/legalisation chain below.
Visiting relatives can apply for a Vietnam e-visa.
Help with a Saudi passport in Vietnam
We could not verify whether the embassy in Hanoi accepts passport issue or renewal applications. Many procedures for Saudi citizens run through Absher; for anything requiring the mission, ask the consular email. After a passport loss, the usual solution is a travel document to return home. Where biometrics are required, the applicant must attend in person.
Info Travel covers the Vietnamese side: translations, confirmations, visa extensions, transfer of visa/TRC to the new passport and exit formalities – within what the embassy permits.
Consular legalisation, MOFA certification and notarised translation
Saudi Arabia joined the Apostille Convention on 7 December 2022, and Vietnam applies it from 11 September 2026. Documents between the two countries used to need a multi-step legalisation chain; now the apostille is the preferred route.
a) Saudi documents for use in Vietnam: obtain an apostille from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then a notarised Arabic–Vietnamese translation. If the receiving office still insists, legalisation through the Vietnamese Embassy in Riyadh is possible. Unless exempted under an international treaty, documents need an apostille or legalisation.
b) Vietnamese documents for use in Saudi Arabia: obtain an apostille from the Consular Department of MOFA or the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, with an Arabic translation (or English where accepted).
Info Travel handles Arabic–Vietnamese–English translation, notarisation and apostille/consular certification end to end. See consular legalisation in Vietnam and apostille vs consular legalisation; quotes on WhatsApp.
